Venetian plaster is a centuries-old Italian decorative wall finish made from slaked lime, marble dust and natural mineral pigments. Applied by hand in multiple thin layers and burnished to a soft sheen, it creates a surface with real depth, subtle movement and the character of natural stone — no two walls are ever the same.

Applied correctly, a Venetian polished plaster wall will last decades. Lime-based finishes actually cure and harden over time, becoming more durable with age. In a private home you can reasonably expect 20 to 30 years of quiet, beautiful service with only occasional light care.

Yes. Venetian plaster is one of the few decorative finishes that is naturally suited to bathrooms — humid environments even help lime plaster to cure. For splash zones or shower enclosures we apply a specialist wax or breathable sealer to add an additional water-repellent layer while keeping the finish's natural depth.

Everyday care is very gentle: a soft, dry microfibre cloth for dust, or a barely-damp cloth for the occasional mark. Please avoid abrasive sponges, bleach or strong household cleaners — they can dull the burnished surface. For sealed surfaces in kitchens or bathrooms, a pH-neutral soap is safe.

Traditional Venetian plaster is water-resistant rather than fully waterproof. With the appropriate wax or specialist sealer applied by the studio, it can be used confidently in bathrooms, splashbacks and wet areas. We always advise on the correct system for the specific location during your consultation.

Every commission is bespoke, so pricing is quoted per project rather than by square metre alone. Cost depends on the finish chosen, the surface preparation required, the size and complexity of the space, and any bespoke colour work. As a guide, a feature wall typically starts from a few thousand pounds. All consultations are free and quotes are itemised.

A single feature wall usually takes 3 to 5 days from preparation to final burnish. A full room takes 1 to 2 weeks, and larger commissions or hotels are scheduled in phases. Between each layer the plaster needs time to cure, which is why the process cannot be rushed — the slow build is what gives the finish its depth.

We hand-tint every batch of plaster to your architecture, lighting and interior scheme, and provide sample boards for you to live with before we commit to the wall.
